People gain weight for a number of reasons. It is a slow process, which can sneak up on us. We may not notice that we are packing on pounds until the weight gain has become significant. At this stage, some people panic and try to institute quick-fix measures that they hope will bring their weight to a normal level. The more the weight accumulates, the harder it may be to get it off.
So why do we put on weight in the first place? Here are a few of the most common factors:
- Energy imbalances – An energy imbalance means that the energy you take in does not equal the energy you spend. Energy is measured in terms of calories. “Energy in” refers to the amount of calories that you get from food and drinks. “Energy out” refers to the amount of energy that you expend through your daily activities. Simply put, you gain weight when you take in more calories than you burn. An energy imbalance will cause your body to store fat, which leads to weight gain.
- Genetics – Genetics play an important role in obesity. There are genes that people inherit from their parents that can cause obesity, such as a disposition toward Prader-Willi syndrome, a common genetic disorder that can cause life-threatening obesity in children. Genes may make a person highly susceptible to weight gain, especially as they grow older and their metabolism slows down. It can be difficult to fight against strong genetics.
- Environment – The world around us influences our ability to maintain a healthy weight. If we don’t have access to parks and other places where we can walk, run, or perform other types of exercises, we are less likely to be fit. Oversized food portions all around us may lure us into eating too much. Lack of access to healthy foods can hamper us, too. For example, we may not have enough money to buy healthy fruits and veggies, so we may purchase cheap processed foods instead.
It will be difficult to alter the factors that contribute to obesity, but we can make healthy personal choices. We can choose to build physical activity into our daily schedule, stop eating when we feel full, and limit junk food. We can also choose to take natural weight loss supplements, such as Garcinia Clean, to increase our metabolic rate and help us shed unwanted pounds.
